As a BWA member, you can be very proud of our annual tradition of awarding scholarships to deserving women.  Our scholarship committee, led by Dr. Elly du Pre' are reviewing the finalists for approval.  On June 11, our scholarship recipients will join us at our luncheon to be honored.

This is only possible because of your generosity.  This month we began our "Mentors and Mothers" fund raising campaign to raise additional funds for the scholarship program.  Special thanks to Maria Soldani for making a $1,000 contribtion to the fund.

Member Spotlight on Valerie Christian, Sales and Marketing Manager, Morton’s Steakhouse.

My first job was in a local movie theater selling candy & popcorn when I was sixteen years old.

I came to Ft. Lauderdale 3 years ago to open Morton’s The Steakhouse Ft. Lauderdale. I have been with the company for 5 years and is the Sales and Marketing Manager at the Ft.Lauderdalelocation. The first two years I helped transition multiple locations including Great Neck, NY; San Juan, PR; Nashville, TN; Louisville, KY; Charlotte, NC, Columbus, OH; and Boca Raton, FL. In my current position I supervise all private dining experiences including social, corporate and pharmaceutical events at Morton’sFt.Lauderdale.

Prior to joining Morton’s I worked as a Group Sales and Marketing Coordinator with the Artist Series inJacksonville,Florida. Artist Series is a company that books Broadway touring shows in conjunction with Broadway Across America. My history also includes working in the media industry; radio, TV and newspaper. Am I a proud graduate of Leadership Broward Class XXVIII and continue my community involvement with the Broward Women’sAllianceand Hispanic Unity.

 I am the proud mother of two fantastic sons, Corry & Ty who both graduated from universities and now work in theFt.Lauderdalearea. Both sons live in close proximity to my Poinsettia Heights home near downtown.

I love to relax at the beach reading and never having to get up from the chair; which is exactly what I did on a recent vacation to Curacao in the Netherland Antilles.

I usually like to take out of town guests on the Water Taxi as I think it is relaxing, entertaining and informative all at the same time.
