BROWARD WOMEN’S ALLIANCE FOUNDATION
Scholarship for the Advancement of Women
History
The Broward Women’s Alliance Scholarship was created in 1997 to benefit women who need support to advance their personal and professional goals through achieving a higher education degree. Over the years, that purpose has not changed., but the status of the BWA has. In 2019, we became a non-profit foundation.
Broward Women’s Alliance Foundation
The Broward Women's Alliance (BWA) Foundation, Inc is a registered non-profit in the State of Florida. Because the BWA Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, if you choose to make a charitable gift to the scholarship fund, it will be 100 percent deductible. We hope you will join us in supporting the outstanding women who have received scholarships through the BWA Foundation.
Scholarship Recipients
Many of our students have earned their Master's and PhD Degrees. One of our recent participants graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a double major in Asian Studies and Global Leadership. She was the first of our students to be awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. Our scholarship winners are studying at in-state and out-of-state universities and colleges. Among these are Florida State University, Howard University, Broward College, Nova Southeastern University, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida International University.
Distribution of Awards
The scholarship program is open to applicants each year. Applicants fill out an application form and documentation. Students are notified in May. Not all of our applicants receive a scholarship the first time they apply, so we encourage them to not lose heart and to re-apply the following year.
Each year we award no less than five $1000 scholarships. Our goal is to double that amount. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition and fees only and are paid directly to the higher education institution by the Broward Women’s Alliance Foundation.
Scholarship Criteria
Scholarship Candidates who have chosen an education path to achieve economic independence and leadership in their chosen field should apply. The rating criteria include: academic achievement, financial need, extra-curricular/community involvement, and work experience.
