Dear Friends,
Summer is here which means BWA is ready to take its summer reprieve, install its new website and welcome a new board of directors. My term as your president ends but my commitment to BWA has only become stronger. I want to begin by thanking all of you for your wonderful contributions this year and for your friendship. I also want to thank the exceptional executive committee for their energy and dedication to making BWA a strong and positive experience for all members and an important support for women in our community. As we move into our 25th year anniversary, BWA both honors its history and welcomes its future. I welcome Merrie Myers as our new president and know that BWA remains in good hands.
In light of your suggestions, we tried some new things this year—we had a real variety in speakers, tried out some new ways for interacting at lunch meetings, and held a few after hours get-togethers. Next year we look forward to having more BWA networking events where we get to know our members and what services they provide. The idea is for us to promote each other and our businesses while continuing to build a dynamic and diverse group of professionals.
We are granting 10 scholarships to deserving women, thanks to the generosity shown by members stuffing the scholarship box and making that extra donation when paying dues. To me, this is the greatest part of BWA and I thank everyone for helping us have another great year when our help is needed more than ever.
I have felt very honored to be President of BWA and enjoyed getting to know more members every year. Broward Women’s Alliance is a great organization—thank you all for making my experience great and worthwhile. Have a great and wonderful summer.
Catalina M. Avalos, President
PS And again, my heartfelt thanks to the fabulous executive committee!!
